PetroChina Plans LNG Bunker Project in Shenzhen

State-owned PetroChina has signed an agreement with Shenzhen Yantian district government, Yantian Port and Shenzhen Gas to develop China's first LNG bunkering project for international vessels in the city of Shenzhen, its parent company, CNPC, said in a statement.

  • CNPC said that the project will help promote the development of energy-saving and environmentally friendly shipping in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

 


CSSC, Cnooc to Undertake LNG Conversion Project

China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) and Cnooc have signed an agreement with Guangdong Province to undertake an LNG conversion project for inland waterway vessels, CSSC said on May 29 in a statement.

 

The Big Picture:

  • As per the agreement, by 2025, Guangdong Province will complete the LNG conversion of about 1,500 vessels and build 19 LNG bunkering stations.

 


Botas, Total Clinch LNG Deal: Press

Turkey's state gas importer Botas has reached a deal with France's Total to buy 1.2mn mt of LNG over three years starting in late 2020, Reuters reported on June 3 citing sources. It did not give details on pricing. Total has a large portfolio of equity LNG, including Nigerian, but it has seen a slump in demand globally.

German Stimulus Package Wins Praise for Hydrogen Support

Germany's post-coronavirus economy recovery package has set aside €7bn ($7.8bn) to develop hydrogen energy and cut emissions, setting the goal of establishing 5 GW of capacity by 2030 and double this amount by 2040.

 

The Big Picture:

  • The stimulus package has won praise from leading German generator and energy trader Uniper. The company is aiming to make its power generation in Europe carbon-neutral by 2035.

 


Petronas Delivers Second LNG Cargo to Myanmar

Malaysian state-run Petronas through its subsidiary, Petronas LNG, has begun deliveries of LNG to Myanmar, with two cargoes delivered in May and June 2020, it said. The delivery is part of a deal signed with CNTIC VPower earlier this year which will use the fuel for power generation.

 

The Big Picture:

  • Petronas said it is also working with CNTIC VPower for further deliveries that will strengthen the relationship between both companies, which will facilitate the growth of their foothold in Myanmar’s fast-growing gas industry.

 


Greece Shortlists 6 Bids for Distribution Grid

Greece's privatisation agency Taiped has shortlisted six bids to acquire the distribution network of state gas utility Depa, it said on June 2.

 

The Big Picture:

  • Greece's parliament passed a law last year breaking up gas firm Depa into its different functions in order to improve competition and efficiency in the country's gas sector and help attract private investment.
