Green LNG: what is it and how can it help LNG players reduce carbon emissions?

Until recently, natural gas was seen as a climate-friendly “bridge fuel” in the transition to a low-carbon economy. Increasingly however investors and policymakers are viewing natural gas as part of the problem rather than part of the solution. They are putting pressure on market players to do more to reduce greenhouse gas emissions associated with natural gas activities. How can players in the LNG industry respond to this challenge? What they can do is to make their LNG “green” or “greener”. But how? And what exactly does “Green LNG” mean? With Steven R. Miles, Energy Sector Chair Baker Botts, Nonresident Fellow, Center for Energy Studies And Matthew Fusina, Special Counsel at Baker Botts Interviewed by Karel Beckman, Low-Carbon Futures editor at Natural Gas World/Gas in Transition Magazine Recorded April 12 2021.

Emerging US Energy Policies in Oil and Gas

In this episode of In a Nutshell, Joseph Murphy discusses emerging US energy policies in oil and gas with Mark Finley, a fellow at Rice University’s Baker Institute. US president Joe Biden has sought to put the US on a path towards net zero and reverse the energy policies of his predecessor. Mark shares his views on the policy direction of the Biden administration, and what this could mean for oil and gas both in the US and overseas. Joseph Murphy is Natural Gas World's News Editor. Recorded on March 23, 2021.

Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre - Gas Report 2020

In this week’s episode of In a Nutshell, Asia Pacific Energy Research Centre (APERC) vice president Glen Sweetnam and researcher Diego Rivera Rivota join us to discuss the organisation’s latest report on Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gas markets. APEC members consume over half of the world’s gas supply and accounted for over two thirds of consumption growth in 2019. We discuss the ongoing trends in these markets, moves towards decarbonisation and how recent events like the cold snap in Asia in December-January and more recently the Texas power crisis have highlight vulnerabilities in gas and power systems. Recorded March 10, 2021. The APERC 2020 Gas Report can be read here: https://aperc.or.jp/file/2021/2/26/APERC+Gas+Report+2020.pdf
