Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov said at a Ukrainian-Norwegian business forum in Oslo that the country was planning to extract 20-30 billion cubic meters of shale gas in 5-10 years, RIA Novosti reports.

Azarov is on a two-day visit to Norway. He met Norwegian King Harald V and Minister for Fishing and Coastal Affairs Lisbet Berg-Hansen.

Ukraine used to buy 50 billion cubic meters of Russian gas, then 40 billion cubic meters annually, Azarov reminds.

Ukraine had tenders for the Yuzovsky and Olessky gas fields for Shell and Chevron in May respectively. ExxonMobil was chosen for the Skifsky gas field in the Black Sea.
