Xinhua: Russian offer may bolster Turkish hopes to become regional energy hub

With a new offer on the table from Russia, Turkey is poised to further benefit from changing dynamics in the transportation of hydrocarbon resources that are abundantly available in its energy-rich neighbors.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's announcement of replacing the 40 billion U.S. dollars South Stream natural gas pipeline project with a new one that will connect to Turkey was welcome news in Turkey.

During Putin's one-day visit to Turkey on Monday, Russia's state-owned gas Gazprom signed a preliminary agreement on building a new pipeline under the Black Sea to transport more Russian gas to Turkey.
