Today's Zaman: Turkey excluded from deal to transport Cyprus gas to EU

Israel, Greece and Greek Cyprus plan to transport gas in the eastern Mediterranean to the EU through a major pipeline project which will exclude Turkey, a daily reported on Tuesday.

Israel, Greece and Greek Cyprus promoted the major pipeline project at the EU level in order to access EU funds for the project, the Hurriyet daily said on Tuesday.

The energy ministers of Israel, Greece and Greek Cyprus sent a letter to European Commissioner for Energy Union Maros Sefcovic requesting a meeting.

During the meeting the three countries will ask the EU for funding for technical and feasibility studies for the project. The three countries' push for EU support to build a pipeline comes at a time when energy security and the diversification of sources are occupying the EU's agenda.
