French multinational exploration and production company, Total, today announced that it has completed work in its facility that transports gas to the 500 million dollar Alaoji power plant in Abia state, South east Nigeria. The Managing Director of Total E&P Nigeria, Elisabeth Proust, commenting on the development, stated that the project was a clear demonstration of the company’s commitment to deliver “better energy”.

Alaoji Power plant is located along the Imo River in Abia state. The power plant covers nine Local Government Areas in Abia state referred to as Aba/Ariaria Business District. Former President of the West African country, Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration gave the concession for the construction of the plant to a private power construction giant, Geometric Company Limited, with funds needed for the project raised from financial institutions. The project carried out with the help of some technical partners was completed in 2013.
