Texas LNG picks Gulf LNG Tugs for tugboat services

Texas LNG, a subsidiary of Glenfarne Energy Transition, has partnered with Gulf LNG Tugs for the construction, delivery, and operation of tugboats under a long-term agreement, Glenfarne said on February 16. The tugboats will play a role in assisting LNG carriers arriving at the Texas LNG facility.

Brendan Duval, of Glenfarne Energy Transition, said: “The Texas LNG team undertook a comprehensive process to identify a marine service provider that not only matches our commitment to environmental stewardship, but also provides our customers with reliable, cost-effective marine services.”

Tugs of Texas is a consortium of Suderman & Young Towing Company, Bay-Houston Towing, and Moran Towing Corporation.

Texas LNG, in recent developments, signed a heads of agreement with EQT Corporation for natural gas liquefaction services, paving the way for the production of 0.5mn tonnes/year of LNG. Additionally, the company announced strategic partnerships with Baker Hughes and ABB to contribute to the development of the terminal.

The Texas LNG project, with a capacity of 4mn tonnes/year, recently received its final permits and anticipates concluding commercialisation in the first half of this year. Project financing is expected to be finalized in 2024, with construction commencing shortly thereafter. The first LNG exports from the Texas LNG facility are projected for 2028.
