Glenfarne expects FID on Texas LNG in 1H 2024

Glenfarne Energy Transition said January 25 it had received the final permits for its 4mn tonnes/year Texas LNG project in Brownsville, Texas and expects to conclude commercialisation in the first half this year.

Receipt of the permits, from the US Army Corps of Engineers and the Texas Railroad Commission, follows a recent heads of agreement (HOA) with EQT for 500,000 tonnes/year of liquefaction services and comes alongside advanced negotiations to finalise previously executed but unannounced HOAs and memoranda of understanding for the remainder of the facility’s capacity.

“With these permits in hand and contracts signed, Glenfarne anticipates concluding commercialisation of Texas LNG in the first half of 2024,” Glenfarne CEO Brendan Duval said. “Texas LNG has both its Federal Energy Regulatory Commission permit and Department of Energy non-Free Trade Agreement permit in hand, and we believe that makes the project among the most attractive options for contracting US LNG.”

Texas LNG expects to close its project financing in 2024, with construction commencing soon after. First LNG exports are expected in 2028.
