Focus Information Agency: South Stream project is extremely unbeneficial for Bulgaria: expert

“South Steam gas pipeline project is extremely unbeneficial and disastrous for Bulgaria,” gas expert Hristo Kazandzhiev from the Bulgarian Energy Forum (BEF) said for Radio FOCUS . According to him the caretaker government must order for assessment on the benefits of the project instead of bringing it into line with the European norms. Kazandzhiev stated firmly that the project doesn’t meet the interests of the country and its resources.

“The problem is that the project continues despite of the fact that it is extremely unbeneficial and even catastrophic for Bulgaria in terms of benefits,” Mr Kazandzhiev said.

He added that when South Steam was announced in 2006 the price for its realization then was around EUR 1,5 billion and that was confirmed by the then Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev. Kazandzhiev calculated that for around four years this price has increased from EUR 1,5 billion to around EUR 4 billion.
