Market Watch: Russia's Putin: No trade war with EU

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Sunday he doesn't see anything new in the European Commission's antitrust investigation against natural gas monopoly OAO Gazprom , blaming Europe's dire economic situation for the probe.

Speaking at a press conference at the close of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum, Mr. Putin said he hopes the issue would be resolved "without losses to both sides."

The European Commission Tuesday launched an investigation into whether Gazprom had breached antitrust rules by hindering the free flow of gas across European Union member states, preventing countries from diversifying their gas supplies and imposing unfair prices on its customers by insisting that the price of its gas be linked to oil prices.  MORE
