WSJ: Polish Shale Chatter: Oil Majors Dig In

Two oil majors with shale gas concessions in Poland—ConocoPhillips and Chevron— are taking actions which industry watchers are interpreting as a commitment to the sector in the central European country, in sharp contrast to ExxonMobil, which has pulled the plug on its Poland shale plans earlier this year.

ConocoPhillips is moving Dan Robinson, a well completion engineer on the Eagleford Shale, to Poland to become the lead engineer, which suggests the company wants to stay in the country and develop the basin, a person familiar with the matter said. ConocoPhillips wasn’t immediately available to comment.

Meanwhile, Chevron has rented office space with enough room to make Warsaw its hub for unconventional exploration in Europe. Admittedly, not much is happening with shale gas or oil on the continent, except for Poland, but still.  MORE
