Azerbaijan might also be in a position to provide much-needed funding for Nabucco and to gain a prominent stake in European upstream, mid-stream and downstream. This coupled with other options puts Azerbaijan in a position to shake-up current plans to bring Caspian gas to Europe.

Cards are finally being put on the Southern Corridor pipeline table, and it’s increasingly clear that everyone concerned is trying to line up the same ‘five card trick’: Vertical integration across the value chain from ‘Caspian well-heads’ to ‘European homes’.
