China's Gas Consumption in July Up 0.6%

China’s natural gas consumption in July was 24.63bn m3, up 0.6% yr/yr, National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said on August 28 in a statement.

  • China's natural gas production in July was 14.2bn m3, up 4.8% yr/yr, as per data published on August 14 by the country’s statistics bureau.

  • LNG imports in July totalled 5.03mn metric tons, up 4% yr/yr, the customs department said. Month on month, imports were down 13.2%.

 

Shell Opens Fifth LNG Filling Station in Germany

Shell has opened its fifth LNG filling station in Germany in Kirchheim unter Teck, it announced on August 31.

  • Shell aims to expand its LNG filling network in Germany to 40 stations by the end of 2022.
  • The company is working on its new business strategy which it will announce next February.

 

OMV Petrom Completes Takeover of Bulgarian Find

Romania's OMV Petrom has completed the takeover of its Austrian parent company OMV's stake in the Han Asparuh block in Bulgaria's section of the Black Sea, it said.

  • France's Total operates Han Asparuh with a 57.1% stake, while OMV Petrom now has 42.9%. Spain's Repsol formerly had 30%, but transferred its shares to its partners in June.
  • OMV Petrom is also in talks to explore a Black Sea block off Georgia, having won a tender in June.

 

Golar LNG JV to Hold IPO

Hygo Energy Transition, a joint venture between Bermuda-registered LNG vessel owner Golar LNG and US investment firm Stonepeak Infrastructure Partners, will have an initial public offering (IPO) of its common shares, Golar LNG announced on August 31.

 

SHI Gets Approval for Liquefaction Cycle Tech

South Korean shipbuilder Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has obtained detailed design approval from classification society American Bureau of Shipping for its LNG liquefaction cycle technology, it said in a statement.

  • Natural gas liquefaction cycle is a core technology to liquefy natural gas at ordinary temperature by freezing it at under 160 degrees below zero with refrigerant.

 

Singapore's LNG Alliance Plans India Investment

Singapore’s LNG Alliance is looking to expand its footprint in the Indian natural gas and LNG space and will be setting up an office in the southern Indian city of Chennai, it said on August 31 in a statement.

  • “The team at the Chennai office will assist the company in forging ahead with the development of India’s virtual gas pipelines, downstream gas market integration, and LNG bunkering possibilities,” it said.
