Politics.hu: Dialogue for Hungary questions existence of Russian Gazprom agreement on South Stream pipeline

The government should make it clear whether Hungary has signed an agreement with the Russian Gazprom for the planning of a Hungarian section of the South Stream gas pipeline project, co-chairman of the oppositon Dialogue for Hungary (PM) party said.

Benedek Javor told a press conference on Thursday that Prime Minister Viktor Orban and National Development Minister Zsuzsanna Nemeth should come forward with this information to clear up contradictory statements in connection with the project.

He said while Bertalan Havasi, the head of the prime minister’s press office, recently denied that any contracts have been signed in connection with the South Stream project, a Gazprom executive and the company’s website claim otherwise.

“One of the two is certainly not true,” he said, adding that based on recent events it is more likely that the PM’s press office was again “projecting falsehoods to the Hungarian voter”.

He said if such a document had been signed, it should be made public.  MORE
