Prague Daily Monitor: ČSSD MP to submit bill banning shale gas drilling in ČR

Opposition Social Democrat (CSSD) deputy Michal Hasek, head of the Czech Regions' Association, yesterday said he will submit a bill banning the hydraulic fracturing, a shale gas mining method, in the Czech Republic, he told journalists yesterday.

Hasek said he will use a text worked out by STOP HF, a coalition of civic groups, NGOs, individuals, towns and self-rule regions.

The planned bill is "apolitical," no clash between the government and the opposition or between the right and the left. Its aim is to protect citizens' interests, Hasek said.

He said he expects to gain sufficient support from MPs from all parties across the political spectrum by the end of June, when he also wants to submit the bill to the Chamber of Deputies.  MORE
