B92: Bulgaria "won't withdraw from South Stream"

Bulgaria will not quit the South Stream pipeline project, "as it is bound to create thousands of new jobs and yield economic benefit, thereby spurring growth."

This is what Bulgarian Minister of Economy and Energy Dragomir Stoynev said on Thursday in Brussels, according to Bulgarian National Radio.

Itar-Tass is reporting that the statement came after a meeting with the EU Commissioner for Energy Gunther Oettinger.

Director of Energy Markets with the European Commission Klaus-Dieter Borchardt said previouslyt hat bilateral agreements to build the pipeline were not in line with EU law and had to be renegotiated.

According to the Russian news agency, Stoynev "believes the European Commission plays a major role in the talks with the Russian side."  MORE
