The initial ban introduced on March 26th of this year, period froze the award of petroleum exploration licence applications and petroleum special prospecting authority applications.

New South Wales Resources and Energy Minister Anthony Roberts explained that the extension of the ban would provide the Office of Coal Seam Gas more time to examine existing exploration licence applications and review the licencing applications process.

New South Wales has refused 10 exploration licences since the ban was implemented.
