Second Blast Hits Socar Line

The same section of a Socar-operated gas pipeline in Azerbaijan has exploded twice in one week. The second blast, followed by a fire, occurred in the morning of January 2.

The 39-inch pipeline carries gas from the Sangachal processing plant about 50 km from Baku. The earlier blast happened on December 27 and neither caused any injuries.

The state-owned company said repair work has already started on the pipeline and that gas supplies to the Absheron region were continuing but from a different route.

Socar told NGW  December 27 that, despite a temporary disruption in domestic gas deliveries, exports were continuing as normal. “The pipeline is not the only one for gas deliveries to domestic and foreign markets,” Socar said.
