Azeri Pipe Hit by Explosion

An explosion has occurred at one of the main gas pipelines, close to the Sangachal terminal in Azerbaijan.

The facilities belong to Azerbaijan’s state-run oil company Socar.

Socar told NGW that, despite temporary disruption in domestic gas deliveries, exports are continuing as normal. “The pipeline is not the only one for gas deliveries to domestic and foreign markets,” Socar said.

There were no casualties; fire extinguishing and repairing operations are already started.

The explosion is reported to have happened at 10am local Azerbaijani time on December 27.

There was no preliminary information as to the cause of the explosion, although most reports cite Socar describing it as an 'accident."
