Venture Global raises second storage tank roof

Venture Global LNG said April 17 it had raised the roof on the second of four LNG storage tanks at its Plaquemines LNG project under construction in Louisiana.

The roof raising was completed ahead of schedule and came just seven weeks after the roof on the first storage tank was raised.

“Today represents another major milestone in the construction of Plaquemines LNG, with both roofs now raised for the tanks serving Phase One,” CEO Mike Sabel said. “With Phase One deep into construction and our recent FID and full notice to proceed on Phase Two, Plaquemines is well positioned to be the next new major LNG capacity to reach the global market.”

Like the first tank – and the remaining two that will come in Phase Two – this tank will store 200,000 m3 of LNG. The roof, weighing 900 tons and measuring 294 feet in diameter, was raisied in 71 minutes using 0.3 psi of air pressure.
