Venture Global raises the roof at Plaquemines LNG

US LNG developer Venture Global said February 27 it had successfully raised the roof on the first of four storage tanks at its 20mn metric tons/year Plaquemines LNG project in Louisiana, just nine months after taking a final investment decision on the $13.2bn first phase.

“I would like to thank both our team and partners at CB&I for the safe and successful roof raising of the first tank at Plaquemines LNG, an exciting milestone in the construction of our second LNG export facility,” CEO Mike Sabel said.

The 900-ton roof for the 200,000 m3 storage tank was raised 130 feet into position in 85 minutes, using 0.3 psi of air pressure from underneath. Eventually, the tank will have an inner wall of 9% nickel allow and outer wall and roof of concrete to provide full containment.
