TMC Wins Order for Equipment at 4 LNGCs

Norwegian compressor supplier TMC Compressors of the Seas has won a contract to supply complete marine compressed air systems and associated equipment to four new LNG carriers (LNGCs) under construction.

The vessels, which are being built at the Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) and Samsung Heavy Industries shipyards in South Korea, will be delivered in 2020 and 2021 to Greek LNGC operator TMS Cardiff Gas, TMC said in a statement on October 25. Equipped with 174,000-m3 storage tanks and XDF propulsion, they will serve under long-term charter contracts with Shell.

TMC will provide two control air compressors, one service air compressor and two nitrogen feed air compressors for each vessel. It will also supply two selective catalytic reduction compressors for the vessels being developed by HHI. The value of the contract is undisclosed.

“In almost all tenders we participate in, shipowners increasingly emphasise energy and fuel efficiency as well as lifetime cost of the equipment, Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development, commented. As our compressed air systems are designed to keep operating expenditure to a minimum, and solely for marine and offshore applications, we have become a favoured supplier in the LNG segment.”

TMC bagged a contract to supply marine compressed air systems for three more LNGCs HHI is constructing for TMS Cardiff Gas last year. The Oslo-headquartered firm was also hired by Golar LNG last month to provide a system for a floating LNG production unit.
