TMC to Supply Equipment for Tortue FLNG

Norwegian compressor supplier TMC Compressors of the Seas has landed a contract from Golar LNG to supply a compressed air system to the floating LNG (FLNG) production unit.

The Gimi vessel is being converted from a Moss-type LNG carrier to an FLNG unit, TMC said in a September 2 statement. TMC has been enlisted to manufacture and deliver seven large Smart Air compressors for the vessel. The contract’s value has not been disclosed.

“Our Smart Air compressor technology offers precise control of the compressor speed, which means that they can run more efficiently than traditional compressors,” Hans Petter Tanum, TMC’s director of sales and business development, said. Smart Air compressors can run using up to 50% less energy, he said, at around half the operational costs, he said.

Once its conversion is finished, the Gimi FLNG will be positioned at the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim LNG project off Mauritania and Senegal, where it will produce up to 2.5mn mt/yr of LNG for export.
