Shana: Portuguese Companies Surveying Return to Iran: Official

TEHRAN, May 29 (Shana) -- Portuguese companies have declared interest to return to Iran and they are surveying Iranian projects, a senior official affiliated to the Ministry of Petroleum said.

Petroleum Ministry’s Director General for Europe, US, and Caspian Sea Neighbors Hossein Esmaeili made the remarks in an interview with Shana on Sunday.

Portuguese companies are interested in participating Iranian petrochemical and refinery projects, the official added. 

He referred to the meeting between Deputy Petroleum Minister for International Affairs Amir Hossein Zamani Nia and visiting Portuguese Deputy Foreign Minister Jorge Costa Oliveira on Sunday and said the two officials have discussed joint investment in fields of petrochemical and refineries.

After the removal of sanctions, ground is ready for foreign investment in Iranian projects, Esmaeili said. 

Portuguese companies have declared their interest for entering Iranian market, he noted.

The official said that Iran has lots of advantages for foreign investors including the advantage of feedstock at competitive prices for petrochemical complexes. 

Portuguese companies are surveying Iranian market at this stage and they will continue the talks with National Iranian Oil Refining and Distribution Company (NIORDC), he underlined.

Portuguese companies expressed hope that with boost of banking relations, Tehran-Lisbon cooperation in field of energy get accelerated, Esmaeili added.

He said ISQ which is a Portuguese company that provides scientific and technological support to petrochemical complexes was active in Iranian Bandarabbas and Shiraz petrochemical complexes in 2008 and 2010 and now it is surveying return to Iran.
