RWE Receives 1st Qatari Term Cargo

RWE received its first LNG cargo last month from Qatargas under its medium-term contract signed last year, the German utility said June 2.

The shipment was delivered on the Q-Flex LNG vessel Al Karaana to the Gate terminal in Rotterdam, Netherlands, after a roughly three week voyage.

RWE Supply & Trading and leading LNG exporter Qatargas announced a flexible sale and purchase agreement in 2016 whereby Qatargas will deliver up to 1.1mn mt/yr LNG in northwest Europe over seven and a half years to RWEST. "This contract ...is a key element in our supply portfolio and underpins our growth strategy in LNG," said Andree Stracke, its chief commercial officer for origination and gas supply.

RWE is mainly active as an electricity and gas supplier and power generator in Germany, the Netherlands, UK and Czech Republic.

There have been no reports of disruption to Qatari LNG exports, since several of its neighbours severed ties on June 5.
