Kosmos sees value in African LNG, where a string of exploration successes point to a possible floating LNG project based on low-cost feedstock and European demand.

US independent Kosmos is keen to launch an initial floating LNG (FLNG) project offshore northwest Africa by 2021-22 and says the project already has a designated offshore location. As operator and majority partner, it has been in talks with potential farm-in partners.

Kosmos CEO Andrew G Inglis hinted at its August 9 results that a final investment decision by end- 2016 looks unlikely, despite the company “still hoping for this.” Progress has nevertheless been made on the project at regular meetings this year involving the two host governments.
