Moldova saddled with higher gas price in Jan: press

Moldova is paying $647/'000 m3 for Russian gas this month, up from $550 in December, state gas distributor Moldovagaz reported on January 10, according to Russia's TASS news agency.

Moldova entered into a new gas supply with its Russian supplier Gazprom in late October, averting an energy crisis that led the government to declare a state of emergency. Moldovan press has reported that the gas price under the contract is calculated using a 70-30 ratio between oil and gas price indexation.

Moldovagaz, half-owned by Gazprom, attributed the rise in the price this month to higher prices at European gas hubs. But the company stressed it would "make every possible effort to timely and fully pay for current supplies and, as a result, guarantee their continuity." Gazprom threatened to cut off supply to Moldova in late November over unpaid gas debts.
