European Commissioner Hahn Meets Azerbaijani President, Focus on Energy

European Commissioner Johannes Hahn and Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev discussed stronger cooperation between the Caucasus country and the EU during a meeting in Baku on Wednesday, in which energy projects were also on the table. 

‘The sides noted that there were good opportunities for expanding cooperation in this field’ reads a note released by Azeri authorities.

Hahn is Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations. 

Meanwhile, Azeri newspapers reported an increasingly favourable climate for the Trans-Caspian pipeline. According to Azernews, Baku will continue backing the 300-kilometre offshore pipeline connecting Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan. 

The Azeri website quoted Malena Mard, the head of the EU Delegation to Azerbaijan, as saying that the negotiations between the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan are proceeding.
