Iran’s Sweet Gas, LPG Production Increases in First 8 Months of Fiscal Year

Iran produced 110 billion cubic metres (bcm) of gas in the first eight months of the current Iranian fiscal year, which started on March 21, 2015, a National Iranian Gas Company official has said.

Abdolhossein Samari, director for operations at the National Iranian Gas Company (NIGC), said the output rose by 5 bcm compared to the same period in the previous year, Shana news agency reported on December 15.

He added that more than 1.804 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) was also produced in the 8-month period, a 53% rise year on year.

During the same time, one billion tons of ethane, 675,000 tons of sulfur, and 19.3 million cubic meters of gas condensates were also produced, a 5%, 6%, and 17% rise, respectively, compared to the past year, he said.

Manoochehr Taheri, director of the dispatching centre at NIGC, said on November 7 that some 202 billion cubic metres of gas was produced in the country in the past Iranian fiscal year, which ended on March 20.

He added that gas consumption stood at 190 billion cubic metres last year.

Iran plans to boost its gas output to 1 billion cubic metres per day within the next two years. The country’s current enriched gas output stands at about 700 million cubic metres per day.
