Deadline arrives for Moldova to pay for Russian gas

Russia's Gazprom will cut off gas supplies to Moldova on November 24 unless the country pays for the deliveries, the company's spokesman Sergei Kupryanov said today on the Rossiya 24 television network.

The company was reiterating a threat it made two days earlier. Moldovan prime minister Natalia Gavrilitsa has sent a request to parliament to urgently consider amendments to the state budget law for 2021, in order to allocate the supplies, the parliament's press service said.

Gazprom and Moldova are only a few weeks into a new long-term gas supply contract. The Russian company has said Moldova must pay for all its supplies on time, while also taking steps to settle its past debts.
