Chinese firm taps Qatar for 1mn mt/yr of LNG supply

China Suntien Green Energy has signed a contract with Qatargas 2 for the annual import of 1mn metric tons/year of LNG over 15 years, the Chinese company said on December 8.

The LNG will be brought ashore at the Xintian Tangshan LNG terminal in China's northern Hebei province. The contract will increase the terminal's utilisation and thereby its profitability, and improve gas supply to the Hebei area, easing seasonal pressures, Suntien Green said.

Suntien Green is involved in domestic gas supply in China to urban utilities and industrial users, and also develops wind and solar power plants. Qatargas 2 operates two 7.8mn-mt/yr liquefaction trains in Qatar. State-owned Qatar Energy is the company's majority owner, while ExxonMobil and TotalEnergies own minority shares.

The latest comes days after Qatar Energy signed a long-term LNG supply deal with China's Guangdong Energy Group Natural Gas Co.
