China's Gas Imports Up 17% in Jan-Feb

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG in January-February were up 17.4% year/year to 20.8mn metric tons, according to customs department data published on March 7.

Chinese gas usage has spiked in recent months as a result of severe cold spells and a rise in economic activity. Thanks to a recovery in demand in the second of 2020, Asia's biggest economy last year imported 101.66mn metric tons of natural gas, up 5.3% yr/yr, the customs department said in January.
