Chinese Gas Imports Rise 5% in 2020

China’s natural gas imports via pipeline and in the form of LNG in 2020 were up 5.3% year/year at 101.66mn metric tons, according to customs department data published on January 14.  

Imports in December were 11.22mn mt, up 22.3% yr/yr. The customs department did not provide any month-on-month comparison.  Chinese gas usage has spiked as a result of  severe cold spells and a rise in economic activity.
