Aussie east coast LNG exports down 5% in September

LNG exports from the three projects on the Australian east coast in September came in at 1.9mn metric tons, down 4.5% year/year, Gladstone Port Corp. said on October 6. The exports were up 3.8% month/month, however.

Exports to China were 1.21mn mt, up from 1.03mn mt last year. The east coast projects exported 381,055 mt of LNG to South Korea last month, up from 271,575 mt a year ago, the data showed. The exports to Japan were 127,213 mt, down from 254,224 mt last year. Malaysia imported 123,152 mt, down from 244,587 mt.

The three east coast projects are Australia Pacific LNG, Gladstone LNG, and Queensland Curtis LNG. LNG exports from the three projects came in at a record 23.47mn mt in 2021, up 4.96% yr/yr.

The three LNG exporters last week signed a heads of agreement with the Australian government to increase the supply of gas to the domestic market.
