Ukrnafta, API to promote adoption of API standards in Ukraine

Ukrnafta, Ukraine's national oil company, and the American Petroleum Institute (API) have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to promote the adoption of API natural gas and oil standards in Ukraine, API said on October 26.

The agreement is a significant step in Ukraine's efforts to reduce its reliance on Russian energy and to develop a more resilient energy sector.

The MOU goes further than a previous agreement signed between API and Ukraine's national standards body, which focused on information exchange and the promotion of API standards. The new agreement specifically supports Ukraine's shift away from Russian standards and toward API's globally recognised international energy standards and best practices.

Under the MOU, API and Ukrnafta will collaborate on a variety of initiatives, including promoting the adoption and harmonization of API standards across Ukraine's oil and gas industry, involving Ukrainian experts on API standards committees, providing guidance, promoting awareness, and facilitating information exchange on the usage and implementation of API standards and safety programs and collaborating on events and the joint organisation of standards-related training programs and seminars.

Ukrnafta operates across all segments of value chain from crude oil production to retail fuel sales. Company operations cover 90 onshore oilfields in Ukraine, extensive transportation and processing infrastructure and largest national mono-branded filling stations network in Ukraine.
