Turkish Stream Pipelaying to Start Next Year

The work on laying the pipeline Turkish Stream will begin in 2017, said Russian energy minister Alexander Novak after a meeting of the Russian-Turkish intergovernmental commission.

"The completion date is the end of 2019. Now there is a lot of preparatory work, first survey, feasibility study and project documentation, then laying the pipeline will start directly. This work will begin in 2017," he said.

All the necessary permits to begin work on the Turkish Stream are already received, Novak said. Novak also said the value of the discount on Russian gas prices for Turkish consumers will be determined through further negotiations.

"Indeed, in the negotiations in the energy sector it is not connected with the signing of the intergovernmental agreement, as this question has long been debated. Certain approaches have been identified for the determination of gas prices for consumers of Russian gas in Turkey. Now actual figures cannot be named. Work will continue in the framework of these approaches between Gazprom and Botas on the implementation of the positions stipulated. There is progress in this direction, and the negotiations continue," he said.
