Turkey Finds More Gas in Black Sea

Turkish president Tayyip Erdogan on October 17 announced additional gas discovery of 85bn m3 in the Black Sea, state-run Anadolu Agency reported the same day. Turkey announced its biggest-ever gas discovery in August this year.

"Total amount of natural gas reserves in the Tuna-1 well in Sakarya gas field reached 405bn m3," Erdogan said after his inspections at the drill ship Fatih. "The reserves we discovered in the Black Sea are the largest hydrocarbon resource of our country till today.”

The Tuna-1 ultra-deepwater exploration well is located in block AR/TPO/KD/C26-C27-D26-D27 and was drilled in 2,115 m of water depth reaching a final total depth of 4,525 m.

In August Erdogan said that the 320bn m³ Tuna field is part of a bigger structure under the Black Sea. The CEO of state producer TPAO, Melih Han Bilgin, said in an announcement that the company would immediately start acquiring 3D seismic and appraise the entire licence to produce first gas by 2023.
