Tecnicas Reunidas secures $560m QatarEnergy EPC contract

QatarEnergy has awarded Spain’s Tecnicas Reunidas an additional $560mn engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract for the LNG off-plot facilities of the North Field South project, including pipelines, interconnections, ancillary systems, and supporting components, the Spanish contractor said on August 21.

Tecnicas Reunidas is currently working on EPC projects for the expansion of storage, distribution, and facilities related to the North Field Expansion project.

The new scope involves the EPC of various off-plot facilities, such as LNG rundown lines, boil-off gas recovery, and utility pipelines connecting the southern part of Ras Laffan Industrial City to new storage tanks and export facilities.

The project also encompasses the commissioning of LNG tanks, an LNG loading berth, boil-off gas compressors, and associated equipment.

Qatar, the world’s biggest LNG exporter in 2022, took a final investment decision in February 2021 on the $29bn North Field East expansion project, due to raise Qatar’s liquefaction capacity from the current 77mn tonnes/ year to 110mn tonnes/year by the middle of the decade. The proposed North Field South project will increase capacity even further to 127mn tonnes/year.
