FT: Shale gas to transform Grangemouth’s fortunes

The Grangemouth petrochemical plant – scene of a bitter dispute between owner Ineos and the Unite union – will be profitable “from the moment” it starts to use cheap US shale gas in 2016, according to the chairman of Ineos’s UK business.

On Monday, Calum MacLean said that the construction of landing facilities for North American shale gas – likely to be the first in the UK – would transform the fortunes of the plant at the heart of Scotland’s largest industrial complex.  MORE
