Serbia’s Vucic to Speak about South Stream with Putin on Thursday

Construction works of the South Stream project in Serbia remain a big question mark despite local authorities recently said that building activities would "make no sense." After some teetering, Belgrade did indeed send clear messages to the Kremlin on Wednesday, restating its interest to increase business ties with Russia.

‘Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic announced today that concrete forms of cooperation between the two countries in the fields of economy, energy and agriculture will be considered during tomorrow's visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Belgrade,’ reads a note released by the Serbian Government on Wednesday

Putin, who is expected to go to Belgrade on Thursday, remains an important figure in the Balkans, not only in Serbia, but also in Bosnia-Herzegovina

The South Stream is Russia’s main priority in the area. Despite a recent U-turn, Belgrade could change its mind again.

'According to Vucic, during the talks on the construction of the gas pipeline "South Stream", Serbia was in a complicated situation, but thanks to the wish of the President of Russia, an agreement was reached quickly and easily.'

Meanwhile, Russian newspapers keep focusing on the topic, with several reports suggesting that the new European Commission does not have a clear position on the South Stream and Serbia.
