Saibu Gas plan to expand LNG storage capacity at Hibiki terminal
Japanese utility Saibu Gas announced on March 26 plans to expand the capacity of its Hibiki LNG import terminal located in Kita-Kyushu, Fukuoka prefecture in Japan.
The expansion involves increasing the number of LNG tanks at the terminal. The company intends to issue a tender for this project, and based on the outcome of the process, it will decide by the end of the year whether to proceed with the investment.
In addition to adding one LNG tank with a capacity of 230,000 m3, Saibu Gas plans to construct an LNG regasification unit and truck shipping equipment. Currently, the terminal consists of two LNG storage tanks, each with a capacity of 180,000 m3.
If the project moves forward, construction is slated to commence by the end of March 2025 and is expected to be completed by March 2029. Saibu Gas said that expanding the capacity of the Hibiki LNG Terminal would not only help meet domestic natural gas demand and contribute to a low-carbon society but also facilitate global business utilising the terminal's capabilities.
