Oman's Khazzan Tight Gas to Start up 4Q: Ministry

Oman’s Khazzan tight gas project will most likely see first gas by 4Q of this year, said Salim Al Aufi, undersecretary at the ministry of oil and gas last week, reported Times of Oman January 28.

“All wells are being drilled. Hopefully by June, we will start commissioning of the plant and in August, one of the gas processing trains will start operation and the second one will follow suit,” he told the fourth Argus Middle East Crude Conference in Muscat.

More than 300 wells will eventually be drilled over the lifetime of the project. BP has plans in place with extensions to be contributing 1.5bn ft³/d of gas to the Omani economy. Production from Khazzan is expected to represent around 40% of the country’s current total domestic gas production.

BP is the operator of the project with a 60% interest and Oman Oil Exploration & Production holds the other 40%.

BP said in October 2016 that it expected first gas from Khazzan "near the end of 2017."
