Japanese LNG imports drop 17% in July

Japanese LNG imports in July were 5.09mn tonnes, down 17.4% year/year, according to provisional data released by Japan's finance ministry on August 17.

The data further revealed that Japan's LNG imports cost 453.35bn yen ($3.1bn) in July, representing a significant 42.3% decrease year/year.

In 2022, Japan surpassed China to reclaim its position as the world's largest LNG importer. Its LNG imports for the year stood at 71.99mn t, down 3.1% yr/yr.
