Indian Gas Exchange reports 45% m/m dip in January gas trading

The Indian Gas Exchange (IGX) on February 6 disclosed a 45% month/month decrease in gas trading volumes for January, with a total of approximately 36mn m3 traded. The exchange executed a total of 127 trades during the reporting period.

Among the various contract types offered by IGX, the daily contract emerged as the most actively traded, with 57 transactions, followed by monthly and weekly contracts with 20 trades each. The exchange reported gas deliveries averaging about 1.6mn m3/day last month.

IGX currently facilitates delivery-based trades across six different contract types, including day-ahead, daily, weekday, weekly, fortnightly, and monthly contracts, allowing trades to be executed for up to six consecutive months. 

The gas trading activities on IGX occur at multiple delivery points across India, including Dahej, Hazira, Ankot, Mhaskal, Bhadhbhut, Dabhol, KG Basin, Gadimoga, and Suvali. 

It covers six regional gas hubs, namely, western hub, southern hub, eastern hub, central hub, northern hub, and north eastern hub across India.
