Gazprom Meets Saipem In Moscow

While Eni continues with its plans to promote a regional gas in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Kremlin says that it is intentioned to continue supporting Syria’s Bashar al-Assad, Saipem and Gazprom met in Moscow.

‘The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee and Stefano Cao, Chief Executive Officer of Saipem’ reads a note released by Gazprom on Thursday evening

According to the note, the parties reviewed crucial issues of the current and future cooperation.

It is unclear whether the meeting was meant to improve their troubled relation and/or to avoid possible escalations.

Earlier this week, Eni executed a sale and purchase agreement to sell a 12% stake in Saipem to Fondo Strategico Italiano, as part of a plan designed to collect €6.5 billion.

In July, the Russian natural gas exporter canceled a 2.4 billion euro contract to build a pipeline under the Black Sea.
