Fuling Shale Output Capacity to Reach 10bn m³/yr

Sinopec’s Fuling shale gas field annual production capacity is expected to reach 10bn m³ this year from the current 7bn m³, the company said March 21.

The first phase of Fuling shale gas field in Chongqing went into production in 2015. Last year, Sinopec announced it is aiming to produce 10bn m³ of shale gas by 2020 from the field. It further stated that the target is to have production capacity of 15bn m³/yr by that year. Fuling shale gas field’s second phase is expected to be completed this year.

At present, Fuling shale gas sales are 16mn m³/d, equivalent to daily gas demand of 32mn households. The cumulative production of shale gas since the start of the field has now exceeded 10bn m³.

China is working on building substantial shale gas infrastructure. Despite many hurdles, the industry has managed to achieve significant progress in last few years.
