Chinese LNG imports up 21% in Q1 of 2024

Chinese LNG imports totalled 19.78mn tonnes in the first three months of 2024, up 20.8% year/year, according to data published by the customs department on April 18.

Asia's biggest economy imported 6.65mn tonnes of LNG in March alone, up 25.1% year/year. 

In addition to LNG, China also reported a significant uptick in pipeline gas imports last month. Imports via pipelines surged to 4.11mn tonnes, up 17.3% year/year. Over the January-March period, total pipeline gas imports amounted to 13mn tonnes, up 26.2% year/year.
