China Sees Strong Shale Gas Output Growth During Jan-Jul

China produced 5.01bn m3 shale gas during January-July period compared with only 600mn m³ during the same period last year, National Bureau of Statistics said on September 1. Country’s total production of unconventional natural gas during the first seven months of 2016 was 9.64bn m³.

Most of the shale gas during the period came from Sinopec’s Fuling shale gas field. It produced 3.054bn m³ of gas during the first seven months of the year, Sinopec announced last month.

Fuling shale gas field’s second phase is progressing well and is expected to be completed in 2017 taking the annual production capacity to 10bn m³. The first phase of Fuling shale gas field in Chongqing went into production last year. Earlier this year, Sinopec announced it is aiming to produce 10bn m³/yr of shale gas by 2020 from the field.
