BP's Tangguh Train 3 in Indonesia ships first cargo of LNG

BP's Tangguh Train 3 in West Papua, Indonesia has shipped its first cargo of LNG, upstream oil and gas regulator SKK Migas said on October 19.

The cargo was sent to a power plant operated by state utility firm Perusahaan Listrik Negara. With the operation of Tangguh Train 3, the production capacity of the two trains currently in operation will increase by 3.8mn tonnes/year to 11.4mn tonnes/year.

Head of SKK Migas, Dwi Soetjipto, said Tangguh Train 3 will contribute to achieving the national gas production target of 11bn ft3/day in 2030.

Apart from the addition of a new LNG train, the Tangguh development project also includes the construction of two offshore platforms, 13 production wells, LNG processing facilities, and other supporting infrastructure.

Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, EVP of gas and low carbon energy at BP, said that Tangguh Train 3 has operated safely and that this marks a new phase for Tangguh LNG.

BP recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Pertamina to explore the potential for gas supply and carbon dioxide injection projects in Tangguh.
