BP Takes Khazzan 2nd Phase FID

UK major BP and its partner Oman Oil Company Exploration & Production have approved the development of Ghazeer, the second phase of the Khazzan gas field, reported Oman News Agency April 8.

“Following the successful startup of Khazzan, we are pleased to announce the sanction of Ghazeer, BP’s first project FID of 2018. Through the transfer of industry-leading skills and technology from BP’s global portfolio, we look forward to further developing this gas field that is expected to support Oman’s energy needs for many decades to come,” Yousuf al-Ojaili, president, BP Oman was quoted by ONA saying.

First phase of the Khazzan project was inaugurated in November 2017. Khazzan is in block 61, of which BP is the operator, with a 60% interest; and the Oman Oil Company holds 40% interest. At present, the production is around 1bn ft3/d, said ONA.

The second phase is expected to come onstream in 2021 and deliver an additional 0.5bn ft3/d and over 15,000 b/d condensate production. Drilling on the first three development wells has begun, following appraisal drilling on Ghazeer last year, ONA reported. BP is only involved in the production, not the marketing, of the gas.
